The Covert Township Fire Department and the Pallisades Fire Brigade went door to door to 167 homes in Covert Township and gave out fire prevention information, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and escape ladders to residents who needed them. Residents with children were also educated with pediatric DOSE (Direct On Scene Education) about child sleep safety. This training was created in Florida to prevent child sleep related deaths, and has been highly successful. The State of Michigan has adopted this training and is starting to train Fire and EMS departments around the state. The Covert Township Fire Department is the second Fire Department in the State of Michigan to implement this program! Click here to watch the WWMT News 3 story about this event!

On 5/06/2015 The Covert Township Fire Department conducted our monthly training. We were joined by members of the Bangor Community Fire Department at an acquired structure. Crews drilled on initial fire attack, communications, command, and water supply. Some of the pictures you see are a view through our TIC (thermal Imaging Camera). This tool allows firefighters to see objects in complete darkness, in smoke filled environments and high heat conditions. The TIC is used to help locate victims that may be inside of a house fire much faster then searching by hand, although we still search by hand as a secondary method. The TIC is also used to locate "hot spots" that fire crews will put out before declaring the fire out. Click here to see the photo's from this training!
